Web exclusive: MSU Community Music School hosts instrument petting zoo

The MSU Community Music School showcased the importance of music in the community and in education Sunday during its public open house. The event, held from 3-5 p.m. at the school, 841-B Timberlane St., had a variety of activities offered to all age groups, including performances by children’s choirs and the New Horizons Band, as well as an instrument petting zoo.

The second annual Spartan Remix hit the Union on Thursday night, as more than 1,000 students and staff filtered through the event’s various destinations.

Almost two hours before Saturday’s Fall Welcome Concert began, MSU special education sophomore Grace Rzepkowski showed up with a group of friends, clad in concert T-shirts signed by the artists they were about to see, to claim the first few spots in line.

From government to globe-trotting

For former East Lansing Mayor Sam Singh, the dream began with a magazine. From the age of 12, Singh envisioned himself as a world traveler, creating imaginary itineraries while looking at National Geographic. “I would get National Geographic magazines and write down places I wanted to see,” Singh said.
