RHA, McPherson meet to discuss greenhouse plans with students

The Residence Halls Association will hear both sides of a debate about plans for a proposed student greenhouse at its general assembly meeting today.The meeting will be in the Essex Underground of Wilson Hall at 7 p.m.RHA pledged support for a student project last year in an effort to replace a greenhouse taken down in 1998.The project received approval from the university, but was amended later.

Krysten McCully didn’t know she’d spend part of her day rolling around inside a human-sized bowling ball after class Tuesday afternoon.But that was just one activity she and many other students enjoyed at the Sports Illustrated Campus Fest, which will continue today behind the rock on Farm Lane.“This whole thing is really great,” McCully, a pre-vet freshman, said.

Future looks bright for U

MSU President M. Peter McPherson hopes if he studies the past enough he’ll be able to repeat it.He presented his plan about the university’s future Tuesday to the Academic Council - the highest body in the Academic Governance system - by looking back at the successes of the university’s past.

I found Dave Wirth’s letter an embarrassment to himself (“ Runners shouldn’t sweat cat-calling,” SN 9/18). I am surprised that anyone would sit down and carefully type out the display of ignorance that was Wirth’s letter.

Bond proposals would improve E.L. schools

East Lansing School District bond proposals totaling more than $66 million will be voted upon today at 14 locations across the city. If the proposals are passed, the money will be used to renovate and remodel the high school and build a new pool. In December 1999, a similar bond was proposed but was voted down.

Racy book shares too many sordid sex details

Run to the library, catch a better book and kiss this story line goodbye - “Run Catch Kiss” by Amy Sohn (Scribner Paperback Fiction, $12) falls far short of its potential. Just out of college, Ariel Steiner, 22, is an aspiring actress in New York City who becomes discouraged after being cast in “fat-girl” roles and after going on countless letdown auditions. Report to offer area students job info

Students looking to embark on a new career after graduation will soon have an additional resource available to them, thanks in part to the university. The MSU Career Services & Placement will offer a report Wednesday that some say will help make students aware of more career opportunities available in the Lansing and East Lansing area. Lansing’s office of Manpower Inc., the largest staffing firm in the world, will release the report, which was researched and designed by two MSU students.

Drivers dealt injuries from Monday E.L. car wrecks

The accident occurred at 2:16 a.m. The women were crossing the intersection westbound when they were struck by a red Dodge Neon. The vehicle, driven by a white male suspect, then fled west on Abbott. A 22-year-old female from Jeddo, Michigan and a 23-year-old female from Saginaw, Michigan were treated at the scene by the East Lansing Fire Department and transported to Sparrow Hospital in Lansing with minor injuries. Police are still searching for the Neon.
