Columnist rages against catcalls

I once accidentally flicked off a priest because I thought he was one of you. Anytime my daily run is interrupted by an obnoxious car horn, I immediately jump to conclusions, and the end result is the high-flying, rage-filled, stride quickening and obscene hand gesture that is provenly effective at assuring either one of two things.

Police brief 11/18/09

The rear panel of a Chevrolet bus was spray painted pink between 11:30 a.m. Friday and 6:45 p.m. Sunday while the bus was parked in Lot 55, MSU police Sgt. Florene McGlothian-Taylor said.

Loomis appointed to 2nd term as mayor

East Lansing City Council members Vic Loomis and Diane Goddeeris were granted a second run as the city’s mayor and mayor pro tem at yesterday’s East Lansing City Council meeting at City Hall, 410 Abbot Road.

It seemed like it wasn’t meant to be. Every time the No. 2 MSU men’s basketball team tied Gonzaga — or even pulled within a few points — the Bulldogs kept the Spartans nipping at their heels. Then, after all the ties (three), one-point deficits (five) and two-point deficits (four), Durrell Summers took the game into his own hands.

Web exclusive: Independent films brought to MSU from Telluride Film Festival

JanSport founder Skip Yowell came to Erickson Hall Kiva on Tuesday night and brought with him the living embodiment of his personal philosophy. The Telluride Mountainfilm Tour brought six original films to the MSU community “to inspire young people,” Yowell said. The tour is a mix of independent films from the Telluride Film Festival in Colorado.
