MSU Community Music School hosts event for children with disabilities

A cacophony of drums, synthesizers and auto-tuned voices echoed throughout corridors of the MSU Community Music School, 4930 S. Hagadorn Road, as youngsters of all ages came together for the Eric “RicStar” Winter Music Therapy Camp. As the programs enters its 11th year, Cindy Edgerton, the camp’s director, said the program has experienced exceptional growth, from 46 campers in 2003 to an all-time high of 124 participants this year.

Rising Michigan gas prices affect everyday transportation decisions

MSU students, faculty and local business owners have taken notice to Michigan’s skyrocketing gas prices, which have driven East Lansing residents to rethink their travel and transportation decisions. Recent reports have slated Michigan as one of the most expensive states when it comes to gasoline prices, averaging $4.22 per gallon in the state, according to AAA’s daily gas report. Economics professor Charles Ballard said prices are higher in Michigan than most other states because it is far away from a lot of the refining capacity in the U.S.

Grand River Ave. construction ahead of schedule

Grand River Avenue construction between Michigan Avenue and Bogue Street is a week ahead of schedule, according to a press release from the Michigan Department of Transportation, or MDOT. Traffic has been shifted to the newly paved eastbound side of the road.

Nine Spartans earn track and field honors in Championships

Crossing just 20 seconds away from her personal record time, redshirt sophomore Leah O’Connor placed fifth overall in the 3,000 steeplechase on the final day of competition. With a time of 9:53.71 O’Connor was one of three Spartans to earn first-team All-American honors at the 2013 NCAA Track and Field Championships.

Pumpstock returns to East Lansing

The sweet aroma of local food and edgy sound of blues, rock and folk flooded Bailey Park as residents from East Lansing and beyond gathered for an evening of family fun. Musicians such as Elden Kelly and The Crane Wives came from near and far to kick off the 4th Annual Pumpstock American Roots Music Festival on Saturday.
