Meat Judging Team re-emerges, tests MSU students

Jill Gulick has loved pigs since she started raising them for fairs as a child. This passion for pork led the animal science junior straight to the pursuit of a career in swine genetics in addition to a role on MSU’s Meat Judging Team.

The Mid Michigan Family Theatre brings "Monster in the Closet" to Lansing

The Mid Michigan Family Theatre is proving dreaded childhood closet monsters aren’t as scary as they might seem. In the upcoming play “Monster in the Closet,” which kicks off on Friday at the Alfreda Schmidt Southside Community Center in Lansing, director Bill Gordon said he’s looking to change the perception of the traditional childhood monster. “(The play) kind of explains the idea of monsters in the closet and lets kids know that these monsters aren’t the fearful creatures that kids imagine them to be,” Gordon said.

Former MSU hockey player Torey Krug has so far had a storybook start to his NHL career. After being called up from the AHL’s Providence Bruins into the thick of Stanley Cup playoff hockey on May 16, the 22-year-old rookie has outplayed many of the veterans.

E.L. losing character with businesses leaving

In recent and in coming weeks, East Lansing has seen a couple businesses leave the area. With Wanderer’s Teahouse and Cafe, 547 E. Grand River Ave., closed and now 21st Century Comic & Games, 515 E. Grand River Ave., closing in a month if nobody purchases the shop, the city is seeing an unfortunate trend of these niche businesses closing down.

U.S. veterans honored at 19th annual Memorial Day Service

Veterans and their families gathered at Glendale Cemetery, 2500 Mt. Hope Road, in Okemos, to be honored at the 19th annual Memorial Day Service and Vespers Program on Monday. Pre-ceremony bagpipes started the ceremony, along with the Pledge of Allegiance led by a volunteer from the local American Legion Post 269.
