CD and record show draws music lovers to Lansing

Upon arriving at Lansing’s CD and Record Show, Andrew Moore had no intention of leaving empty-handed. Saturday’s free show was the fifth time the MSU College of Law clinician has filtered through the tables of CDs and vinyls throughout the years, and for him the adventure never gets old. His choices for the day included Frank Zappa, Led Zeppelin and David Bowie.

Woman reported missing after fleeing East Lansing residence

A mother of three is considered a missing person after fleeing from a home in East Lansing Saturday night, according to the East Lansing Police Department. Sarah Jane Jackson, 23, reportedly left a home on Chartwell Dual Carriage Way Saturday at about 9 p.m. with the father of two of her three children, according to a statement from police.

Alumna leads Arts Council of Greater Lansing

Passion for the arts and its development is something MSU alumna Debbie Mikula has had since middle school. Now, being the newly elected executive director of the Arts Council of Greater Lansing, Mikula said she will continue acting as an arts administrator and being involved with the success of artists and other art organizations.

LINCOLN, Neb. – With a historic opportunity in their grasp, they ran a “Charlie Brown,” but they didn’t pull a Charlie Brown — whiffing and falling flat. The then-No. 14-ranked Spartans strolled into one of college football’s most hallowed sanctuaries and used a crafty fake field goal to power their 41-28 win, the program’s first win against Nebraska in eight tries. MSU (9-1 overall, 6-0 Big Ten) was ahead by six and facing fourth-and-1 at the Cornhuskers’ 27-yard line early in the fourth quarter when head coach Mark Dantonio ordered the trickery named after the “Peanuts” main character. Once again, junior punter Mike Sadler was the secret weapon and designated ball-carrier on the deceptive play, this time as the holder on the field goal unit.

Museum offers hands-on archaeology experience

Groups of families, ?children and members of the MSU Campus Archeology Program played in the dirt acquiring artifacts during a day filled with learning and fun on ?Saturday at the MSU Museum. The children learned through involvement with hands-on activities in a Dig the Past event, which included sifting through dirt to find real artifacts loaned by MSU’s teaching education collection.

Wicinski becomes all-time MSU kills leader in weekend split

It’s no secret the MSU volleyball team is talented. In the past few weeks, it’s become more clear just how talented the roster is in a historical sense. A week after junior libero Kori Moster became the all-time digs leader in MSU history, senior outside hitter Lauren Wicinski set the all-time career kills record against Iowa on Saturday.

Global Festival features many international cultures

From flags of all colors to custom music featuring Korean hit “Gangnam Style,” Brody Complex Neighborhood was the home of the annual Global Festival on Sunday, weaving MSU into a cultural interactive melting pot. Sunday from noon to 5 p.m., approximately 3,000 attendees ranging from infants to students came out to the free festival, which dates back to the 1940’s.

Yo-Yo Ma visits campus, students

As a child in Taiwan, music performance doctoral student Chi-Hui Kao listened to renowned cellist Yo-Yo Ma and dreamt of the opportunity to play alongside him. On Tuesday, Kao and two other College of Music students will be given the opportunity to play with, listen to and learn from the cellist in a graduate-level class at Fairchild Theatre.

Indiana stops men's soccer Big Ten repeat in final

A second half goal denied the No. 20 men’s soccer team its second straight Big Ten Championship in a row after a 1-0 loss to Indiana on Sunday in Columbus, Ohio. Jamie Vollmer netted a 66th-minute goal to earn the Hoosiers (8-11-2) an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.

Students stay up all night at St. Jude Up 'til Dawn to raise money

As students lined the hallway in IM Sports-Circle at 11:30 p.m. Friday night, a half hour before began, some yawned with bleary eyes while others radiated with excitement and anticipation. The night was far from over for participants of St. Jude Up ‘til Dawn, who pulled an all-nighter to raise money for children with serious illnesses.

“MAMMA MIA!” made spontaneously bursting into song seem like a perfectly reasonable and highly desirable occurrence Friday night. And as ABBA’s “Dancing Queen” blared from Wharton Center’s Cobb Great Hall, audience members jumped to their feet and did just that.
