Investigation: Office of Civil Rights reps meet with student groups

As a part of the U.S. Department of Education’s plan to investigate MSU’s handling of alleged sexual assault and sexual violence complaints, representatives from the department’s Office for Civil Rights, or OCR, are visiting campus this week to hear from students.Department of Education spokesman Jim Bradshaw told The State News Monday that it is currently investigating Title IX sexual harassment and violence complaints that are pending against MSU. Neither the OCR nor MSU have provided additional information regarding the claims.

Snyder trial Tuesday morning.The case involves adoption laws for same-sex couples in Michigan. In October 2013, Judge Bernard Friedman brought the issue of same-sex marriage to the fold.

Simon speaks up on federal assault investigation

President Lou Anna K. Simon tried to play down information surrounding the federal investigation into Title IX sexual assault and violence complaints against the university Monday, calling the investigation "a review" and saying she looks forward to working with the Department of Education's Office of Civil Rights, or OCR.During the Academic Governance meeting on Tuesday, Simon said the investigation merely was a "review" of university practices by the federal government.
