Unsung athletes look for letters

Joey Spano wasn’t just an athlete in her days at MSU.She was a three-sport superstar, excelling in basketball, softball and field hockey in the early 1970s.But ask her to show you her varsity letters and she’ll come up empty-handed.That’s because MSU never gave her any.Although the university had taken some strides to recognize women who participated in athletics before Title IX became law, these female athletes have never been formally presented with varsity letters.“It just would mean a tremendous amount to me,” Spano said.

Mural adds color, life to hall

Agriculture Hall has a new gem welcoming people into its atrium.The atrium connects the part of Agriculture Hall built in 1909 to the new annex of the building, which was completed earlier this year.A mural, “ANR Past, Present and Future” hangs in the atrium.

Football teaches life lessons

This letter is in response to Greg Brown’s letter about high school football (“Football is killing country’s youth,” SN 11/6). While Brown is entitled to his opinion, I would like to offer my side of the argument in this, the season of political propaganda.
