Senior wrestlers to be honored this weekend

Friday will be a night of endings and new beginnings at Jenison Field House when the 14th-ranked MSU wrestling squad hosts sixth-ranked Oklahoma. It will not only be the last home meet of the season, but it also will be the last time four Spartan wrestlers will take the mat at home.

It is disappointing the Capital Area Transportation Authority has proposed raising its rates, but it’s within the parameters of its contract with MSU. CATA distributed a notice to students in some MSU dorms stating the bus system is considering raising its single-ride rates for students, senior citizens and people with disabilities from 25 cents to 50 cents.

Debate continues over Olin access to RU-486

Despite Olin Health Center’s statement that it cannot carry RU-486, ASMSU is continuing the push to ensure the drug is available to MSU students. ASMSU’s Student Assembly debated a measure Thursday calling on the health center to make RU-486, also known as mifepristone, attainable through Olin. But Mike Ehlers, college of Social Science representative for the assembly, said the ultimate decision of RU-486 at MSU is out of ASMSU’s hands. “It is up to the university and Olin when and how and whether anything is done or not,” he said.

Women celebrate sexuality in play

Five years ago, in the basement of a New York City cafe, “The Vagina Monologues” graced the stage for the first time. And now the show has become more than just a play - it’s a way for thousands of people around the country to help end violence against women. This Sunday, MSU contributes to the cause by putting on a two-hour show to raise awareness on this and other women’s issues, such as sexual violence, menstruation and childbirth. This is the third year “The Vagina Monologues” has been shown at MSU.

Group battles eating disorders

In an attempt to make students more aware of issues surrounding eating disorders, a campus group will kick off Eating Disorders Awareness Week on Sunday. Respecting and Understanding Body Image will start the week with a new edition of stall stories. Nutritionist and group adviser Ronda Bokram said the stories are posters hung in bathroom stalls throughout campus. “They are our way of tackling issues about eating and body image,” Bokram said.
