With bloody knockout, Lewis proved Tyson is finished

Saturday night’s heavyweight bout confirmed my belief that Mike Tyson has forever fallen off the plateau of boxing superiority. The man called “Iron Mike,” who used to intimidate opponents first with his psychological warfare - he was quoted as saying he would eat Lennox Lewis’ unborn children - then knock them out with brute strength, was beaten by Lewis, clearly the more skilled and tactical fighter. I suspected that Lewis’ height and reach advantage would be too much for Tyson to overcome.

Country opens Summer Circle with success

I’ve been waiting for the chance to write a positive review for this newspaper, and the opportunity to do so presented itself Saturday night when I saw “A Month in the Country,” the first of three plays in the MSU Summer Circle Theatre season. The play is a never-ending web of love and relationships, highlighted by the fine acting of Natalya (theater Professor Julia Lenardon) and Michel (2002 graduate Mike McKeogh). The two share some intense scenes, where their love and hatred for each other envelopes the audience.

From debt to excess, Pride March goes on

The 14th annual Michigan Pride March, Rally & Festival at the Capitol this weekend is likely to draw a large crowd of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender activists - and their supporters - from around the state. But a few months ago, many were wondering if rainbow-colored flags would fly high in the capital city Saturday. Michigan Pride Inc. faced a $14,500 shortfall in March, and some members of the LBGT community were afraid the event would be canceled. The budget problems were well known and troubled some, including Josh Boehme, who had special reasons to celebrate this year. “Since this was the first year I’m participating, I was a little worried,” the computer science junior said. Boehme, the office manager for MSU’s Alliance of Lesbian-Bi-Gay-Transgendered and Straight Ally Students, said he didn’t attend last year because he had recently come out about his sexual orientation.
