Wearing blue pants and tall black boots, MSU police Sgt. Alan Haller is ready to enter a new age in campus policing. Beginning next week, the MSU Department of Police and Public Safety will patrol campus for the first time with a set of Harley-Davidson Road King motorcycles. "I ran at this chance," Haller said, dressed in new cycling gear.

James Madison freshman dies near Holly train tracks

A 19-year-old MSU freshman was found dead Tuesday morning next to train tracks in Holly, about 20 miles south of Flint. The body of Michael Randolph, a James Madison freshman from Owosso, was found several hours after being struck by a train, Michigan State Police trooper Mark Pravato said. Police believe the death was a suicide.

Student autopsy inconclusive

The autopsy performed on an MSU student found dead Sunday showed no signs of foul play, the county medical examiner said Monday. City and county officials continued Monday to investigate the death of John Cornelius Eckhold III, a 23-year-old psychology senior, who was found dead by his father at his East Lansing apartment. His father, who is from Midland, went to check on his son after he didn't hear from him for several days.
