Muslim community hosts celebration

This Thursday, the Muslim community of East Lansing is inviting students to join them in a celebration of Eid al-Adha on the second floor ballroom of the Union. The event is free for MSU students and runs from 6:30-9:30 p.m.

Honors College to discuss race issues

Members of the MSU Honors College are inviting the MSU community to attend a discussion which will be examining race, ethnicity and identity in higher education. The discussion will take place from 5:30-7 p.m.

Women's basketball to host home opener

In the middle of a 7-day stretch that sees the MSU women’s basketball team play four times, the Spartans are set to open their home season against IPFW Tuesday night. The Spartans (1-1 overall, 0-0 Big Ten) are coming off a weekend split in the Iona Tip-Off Tournament played in New Rochelle, N.Y., in which they were treated to a strong debut by freshman forward Becca Mills, who was named to the all-tournament team and the Big Ten Freshman of the Week.

Volleyball receives 3 National Letters of Intent

While the MSU volleyball team is approaching the end of the regular season and must begin to think about its postseason chances, the Spartans already are looking toward their future. Head coach Cathy George and the Spartans received National Letters of Intent from three recruits to play for MSU in 2012.

It has become apparent to me that this insignificant division, known simply as “parking,” has introduced itself more recently as a nuisance and disease to the populace of East Lansing.

Reforms would benefit society

Part of any generation’s responsibilities is to correct the mistakes made by the last. We usually tend to think of this responsibility in the context of examples taught in grade school, such as the woman’s suffrage movement and the civil rights movement.

No-preference option allows exploration

To help students find the right major, MSU should consider requiring freshmen to come in with no defined major and choose one after one year. This would allow students to take the required courses needed to graduate and help in not letting students go two years into college before realizing they have no interest in their chosen major.
