A vote to approve a modified site plan for the St. Anne Lofts project was put off until July 24 by East Lansing City Council during its bi-weekly meeting at City Hall, 410 Abbot Road, Tuesday night. Council also unanimously approved a policy resolution which would allow food trucks to move into the downtown area with a concessionaires license.
A recent study from the MSU School of Packaging shows that consumers are more likely to purchase packages that have a long shelf life, are easy to open and are made from bio-based products. Georgios Koutsimanis, a doctoral student and graduate assistant, said the report asked people around the country what type of packages they would be inclined to purchase. “We couldn’t find anything like it,” Koutsimanis said.

Law student Edem Okudzeto and his classmates always tried their best to avoid wearing red in professor John “Jack” Apol’s criminal law classes. Apol was known for being sensitive to the color red, and each day, he scanned the hundreds of students in his lecture halls, singling out the students wearing anything close to red to answer questions. “We avoided red, pink or maroon,” Okudzeto said.
Construction workers at the West Circle steam loop found quite the surprise last Tuesday when they discovered the foundation of a wall below the ground near Morrill Hall. The wall, which Lynne Goldstein, anthropology professor and director of MSU Campus Archaeology Program, said probably was built in 1900, likely was an old boiler building constructed to support the demand for more energy for Morrill Hall. Goldstein said there was no record of the building on MSU’s historical map, and the building likely was forgotten prior to its discovery last week. “What is interesting about it is that people have forgotten that it existed,” Goldstein said.
With a record all-time high temperature in Lansing of 103 degrees Fahrenheit last Friday, MSU geography professor and state climatologist for Michigan Jeff Andresen said the warm front that has been affecting North America likely will continue to affect the community, causing warmer temperatures and increased humidity.
Hope has officially been lost for alumni who wish to keep their @msu.edu email account. MSU has stopped looking into alternatives to completely deleting email accounts for alumni who have not registered for classes in over two years, university spokesman Kent Cassella said in an email Monday.
Earlier last week, mathematics senior Sarah Jordan returned to her East Lansing home to find her air conditioner was out of service. Student employment steadily increases by about 500 to 1,000 students each academic year, according to a recent report done by Anna Barner, student employment coordinator in the MSU Human Resources Department. “It’s a trend we see every year,” Barner said. “Fall semester is one of our busiest times.”

An armed robery occurred at approximately 11:14 a.m. Monday at PNC Bank, 2101. E. Michigan, according to Lansing police. Displaying a hand gun, the suspect entered the building and demanded money from a teller. After he was given the money, he fled the scene on foot towards the east. The suspect was described as about a 5’11” black male with a dark complextion and muscular build.
