Women still not equal in workplace

On Tuesday night, America voted to re-elect its first African American president. Although this a progressive step for a country with a past of racism and bigotry, the United States took another step toward equality by electing enough female senators to break the record for the most ever to sit in the Senate. States, such as Massachusetts and Wisconsin, elected their first female senators, putting the total number at 20.

COMMENTARY

Working in self-interest beneficial

In much of society today, working for the greater good generally is valued above focusing on one’s own personal needs. A community that focuses on collective action is stronger than one that preaches individual pursuits.

After hours of slowly counted votes came in across the country, the president’s chance at a second term in the White House over Republican opponent Mitt Romney came down to traditional Democratic states on the West Coast. And when media outlets called Ohio for the president around 11:15 p.m., it was over.

Men's soccer opens Big Ten Tournament with No. 22 Indiana

The last time Jay Chapman took the soccer field against Indiana, he walked away with his first collegiate hat trick and a 3-1 win for MSU men’s soccer (8-9-1 overall, 3-3-0 Big Ten). Chapman looks to have similar success as the Spartans open up the Big Ten Tournament on Wednesday in Evanston, Ill., against the No. 22 Hoosiers at 1 p.m., Central time.
