Power restored after Lansing outages

Parts of the Lansing area went dark on Friday night into Saturday morning with power outages, according Board of Water and Light, or BWL. A snowblower hit a padmount transformer, causing an outage near the 200 block of North Capitol Avenue. Nearly 100 residents also lost power along Grand River Avenue and Waverly Road in Lansing, as well as the Groesbeck area of Lansing, on Saturday morning due to a downed power line.

Student arrested for alleged attack on boyfriend

An MSU student was arrested for allegedly attacking her boyfriend at about 1:30 a.m. on Jan. 7 in West Owen Hall, according to police. MSU police Sgt. Florene McGlothian-Taylor said the 19-year-old student became violent during a verbal altercation with her boyfriend, a 21-year-old student, when she accused him of infidelity.

Pair brings English dance history to MSU

Dance instructors Robert Messer and Linda Hanson enjoy nothing more than bringing people a glimpse into England’s past through dance — costumes and all. The pair teach English country dancing, a widely-recognized style of dancing that began in England in about the 1600s as a way for men and women to interact together in a social setting.

Proposed Goodrich's closure sparks debate at E.L. Planning Commission

Plans for the future development of Trowbridge Plaza remain unclear in the midst of controversy behind the proposed closure of Goodrich’s Shop-Rite grocery store. The store and the former Oodles and Noodles restaurant could be replaced with two new buildings if the site’s developer gets his plan approved. The discussion warranted a full house during the East Lansing Planning Commission meeting Tuesday night.

After Monday’s snow day was announced Sunday evening, many resourceful students took to the outdoors to create their own wintry fun.?Ty Sickler, James Mooney and their roommates decided to use the snow to their advantage and build two snowboarding ramps off their porch on West Grand River Avenue.
