Ride 2 Recovery helps veterans in need

?Led by the East Lansing Police Department, Wermuth and 200 other injured veterans passed through East Lansing on Tuesday afternoon as a part of Ride 2 Recovery, a nationwide program for veterans that has offered rehabilitation through long-distance biking since 2008.? Ride 2 Recovery accommodates veterans suffering from many kinds of injuries, including those with missing limbs and paraplegics. The group was a part of the Great Lakes Challenge, a route reaching from Chicago to Detroit.?

Sparticipation includes snakes, Speedos

There are only a few events during the academic year at MSU where someone can be approached by men in Speedos and pet a live snake all at the same time. Sparticipation, the annual freshmen showcase of clubs on campus, is one of them. Student Activities Assistant Amanda Scharnweber said about 360 clubs participated in Sparticipation, and while she said she hoped for a 100 percent turnout, she estimated 80 percent freshmen attended.

Local businesses look to offer free benefits through welcome week

Grand River Avenue was swarmed with students doing back-to-school shopping during Welcome Week while businesses tried to get their names in students’ heads with giveaways and deals. MSU Federal Credit Union had a booth outside for free water bottles, tote bags, coolers and $10 cash. The booth was there for about a week and a half Tuesday was the final day. Passers-by spun a wheel to win prizes.a different prize or one that was listed?

MSU electrical engineering team finishes second in national event

After spending countless hours during the spring semester, a team of MSU electrical engineers were honored with second place at the 2012-2013 Texas Instruments Analog Design Contest in Dallas, Texas. Each year, Texas Instruments, or TI, has a three-day contest, hosting 10 final teams who have created a project using a minimum of three TI components in their final design.

City council discusses 7-bedroom apartments

The East Lansing City Council approved a moratorium at last Tuesday’s meeting to further discuss whether seven-bedroom apartments are a viable option for downtown development. In the past year, the city has received two applications for seven-bedroom, multiple-family-dwelling units. One is a set of townhouses, owned by Hagan Realty, Inc., 927 E. Grand River Ave., adjacent to Lot 11. The other is the space above the former Wanderer’s Teahouse, 547 E. Grand River Ave., owned by Perry Investment Group.

ASMSU looks forward to new semester

In the aftermath of a long-winded battle with the university, which came to an end this summer, ASMSU is looking forward to a fresh start. For the sake of its autonomy, MSU’s undergraduate student government avoided the prospect of moving all its funding into on-campus accounts after issues with a series of audits were taken up with university officials.
