Committee meets to lower university health care costs

An MSU committee is discussing options including lowering prescription drug costs and implementing wellness programs for faculty in an attempt to curb rising health care costs. The Health Care Strategy Advisory Committee was formed in February to find ways to make MSU’s health care system more efficient.

Despite slow startup, MSU ends season in high spirits

The regular season didn’t end the way the MSU baseball team wanted it to, as the Spartans were eliminated from the Big Ten Conference Tournament on Thursday. But then again, not a lot of things happened as expected this year for the Spartans, who finished fifth in the conference with a 13-11 conference record and 23-31 overall record.

Credit card act works to protect students

President Barack Obama signed a bill Friday that is going to change the way the credit card industry treats young people. The Credit Card Accountability, Responsibility and Disclosure Act, or CARD Act, is a bill introduced by Sen. Chris Dodd, D-Conn., that will bring protection to students seeking their first credit card, among others.

When Wacousta, Mich., resident Kathy Bender went to NCG Cinemas, 2500 Showtime Drive, in Lansing, Wednesday night to catch a movie, she wasn’t just paying for a ticket — she was paying for a physics lesson. Bender and a crowd of about 100 others were taken on a tour of the building blocks of life following a showing of “Angels & Demons” with MSU physics professor Raymond Brock acting as the tour guide.

Web exclusive: Great Lakes region may receive $475M to clean up lakes

The Obama administration wants to give the Great Lakes region a boost in the form of $475 million for Great Lakes cleanup, something state officials said might bolster Michigan’s floundering tourism and economy. The money, proposed as part of the 2010 federal budget, would be spent in different ways, such as pollution prevention, the removal of invasive species, cleanup in rivers and streams and habitat and wildlife protection.

The saying goes, “When it rains, it pours.” That was the case Wednesday as the No. 4-seed Illinois baseball team smacked No. 5-seed MSU in a 16-5 trouncing in the first round of the Big Ten Tournament at Huntington Park in Columbus, Ohio.
