E.L. bar owners, patrons prepare for smoking ban
The smoke is set to clear Saturday when a statewide smoking ban goes into effect, and many East Lansing residents and establishments said they see a positive future for businesses and society. Restaurant owners said implementing the law in May instead of when it was passed in December will help customers adjust while the weather is conducive to being outside.
E.L. absentee voter ballots available
The East Lansing City Clerk’s office will issue and accept applications for absentee voter ballots from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday as the city prepares for Tuesday’s special general election.
Insurance for renters at MSU encouraged
A house fire at 318 Elm Place left 11 people temporarily homeless and possessionless, and the fact no one had renter’s insurance to cover their belongings made the situation more difficult. Many MSU students, however, would be in a similar situation should a disaster happen to them. Renter’s insurance protects possessions in natural disasters and theft.
Site plan for frat house approved by City Council
A plan to change 128 Collingwood Drive, the MSU Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity chapter’s house, into a 15-unit, high-end apartment complex, was approved Tuesday by East Lansing City Council.
City Council to discuss fate of frat houses
East Lansing City Council could decide on a site plan to convert the Lambda Chi Fraternity house, 128 Collingwood Drive, into a 15-room, high-end apartment complex during its Tuesday meeting. The site plan was debated at the April 8 Historic District Commission meeting, where the commission urged Troy, Mich., developer Dale Inman to request a certificate of appropriateness from the city.
