I love to write. It’s what I want to do with my life, although I’m not sure what or who I want to become; a professor in academia, a journalist, a starving poet, an aspiring novelist?

One step at a time

Coming off a tough loss against Iowa last week and nursing several injuries, No. 10 MSU had plenty of reasons to limp through Saturday’s game against last-place Minnesota and into this week’s bye. Instead, it showed no signs of letdown in Saturday’s 31-8 win. The victory was head coach Mark Dantonio’s 31st tenure win, the highest of any coach’s first four seasons in Spartan history.

Board approves apartment demolition

The MSU Board of Trustees authorized university officials to move forward with the demolition of the Cherry Lane and Faculty Bricks apartments on Harrison Road, and approved the 2011-12 Appropriation Request to state legislators during its Friday meeting.

Car-sharing service coming to MSU campus

A year and a half after efforts began to bring Zipcar to campus, Paul Jaques, co-chair of the car-sharing program, said Zipcar and university officials are working together to bring the program, which offers a fleet of cars for students to use at their convenience for an annual fee and rental cost, to campus.

Fraternity raises awareness

Criminal justice senior Clyde Martin was wearing his long johns Friday night as he camped out in front of the Union to raise money for the homeless. Martin was one of eight members of Phi Beta Sigma’s Delta Kappa chapter at its annual Sleep Out for the Homeless event from 10 p.m.

MSU samples new Mountain Dew

Students and tailgaters alike were offered free drinks at the FanDEWmonium tent Saturday morning as part of a nationwide campaign to decide the new flavor of Diet Mountain Dew. FanDEWmonium is a promotional tour sponsored by Mountain Dew as a way to involve fans of the drink in determining two new Diet Mountain Dew flavors slated to hit stores in March 2011.

Women’s leadership event held at MSU

More than 100 women fluttered their arms like butterflies Sunday, symbolizing their journey to become future leaders. The women were gathered at the Eighth annual MSU Women’s Leadership Conference at the Union. Communication senior and student keynote speaker Natasha LaGrone compared the journey of women becoming strong leaders to the growth of a caterpillar into a butterfly. “I want you to be able to truly embrace that journey … as you become the leader you wish to follow,” LaGrone said.

Senior class council hosts Charity Bowl

The Special Olympics Michigan in Mason doesn’t know it yet, but it has a check for more than $600 coming in the mail. It’s the result of the 13th annual Green and White Charity Bowl sponsored by the Senior Class Council, held from 9 a.m.

Fourth-down plays key in Spartan victory

On Saturday, No. 10 MSU’s 31-8 victory against Minnesota at Spartan Stadium was far from being decided by a single play. However, the Spartans’ execution on fourth down alone was a major determining factor in MSU’s 23-point victory against the Golden Gophers.
