Bill could increase bike education if passed

Bicyclists could see a safer roadway if a bill passed Tuesday by the state House of Representatives becomes law. The bill, which passed by a 74-30 margin, would amend the Driver Education Provider and Instructor Act to require more education about laws pertaining to bicycles during the classroom instruction of segment 1 driver’s education.

Phillip Katzmann, a Bloomfield Hills, Mich., resident, finished a four-day, 73 mile walk from the Volunteers of America administration building in Southfield, Mich., down Grand River Avenue, through downtown East Lansing and to the Lansing shelter in order to raise money for the homeless.

MSU and Kansas State University have partnered with two Brazilian universities — Federal University of Para and Federal University of Bahia — to launch The Brazil Partnership Program, a multidisciplinary collaboration that will focus on global development, as well as economic, environmental and human health issues.

Chinese student enrollment rises at MSU

There are more than 2,400 Chinese international students at MSU this year, meaning numbers have increased more than 71 percent from about 1,400 students in 2009. The numbers also represent a more than 320 percent increase since 2005, according to recent statistics from the Office of International Students and Scholars, or OISS.
