Faculty committee discuss wages, SIRS

Some faculty might have a bigger pay check next academic year if proposed merit and market pool increases are passed by the university. During Tuesday’s Faculty Council meeting, University Committee on Faculty Affairs, or UCFA, chairwoman Deborah Moriarty presented a proposal to increase the faculty merit pool by about 2 percent and the market adjustment pool by about 1 percent.

ASMSU announces election results

Students have voted in favor of renewing ASMSU’s $16.75 tax, an extra $1.25 tax for the Readership Program and to approve the constitutional amendments to postpone implementation of 501©(3) status and to reinstate a temporary Academic Assembly. ASMSU is MSU’s undergraduate student government. 758 students voted in favor of the $16.25 tax renewal, with 164 students voting against it and 49 abstaining. 797 students voted in favor of the $1.25 tax for the Readership Program, which provides four daily newspapers free of charge for students on campus.

When Val Meyers, associate director in the Office of Financial Aid, first came to MSU about 25 years ago, she kept her sexual orientation hidden. Decades ago, MSU didn’t offer as much support for lesbian, bisexual, gay and transgender, or LBGT, faculty members as it does today.

Bars cited for serving minors in ELPD report

Several East Lansing bars were cited for serving underage and inebriated individuals last year according to the 2010 Annual Liquor License Report from the East Lansing Police Department, or ELPD. The report, which was released at an East Lansing City Council meeting last month, details various police calls to restaurants and stores with a liquor license.

Final fundraising goal for Eli and Edythe Broad Art Museum in sight

MSU is pushing to raise $6 million by April 2012 to reach its $40 million fundraising goal for the Eli and Edythe Broad Art Museum. So far, the university has raised slightly more than $34 million toward the project, said Bob Groves, vice president for university advancement. University officials said they had raised about $33 million for the project in June 2010.
