Potential grants not realistic option

Senate Democrats have been discussing a new policy initiative that could possibly offer grants to in-state students attending public universities in Michigan, but its success could be detrimental to the state. The Michigan 2020 plan, as Democrats are calling it, would provide nearly full tuition — about $9,500 a year — to in-state students who have spent their whole K-12 education in Michigan schools, including public, private and home-schools.

Appling beat in matchup against Wolverines' Burke

At the MSU men’s basketball press conference on Monday prior to Tuesday’s game against No. 20 Michigan, Draymond Green indicated the player who came out on top in the Keith Appling Burke matchup would likely win the game. And the Burke-led Wolverines walked away with the 60-59 victory on the shoulders of the freshman’s 20-point performance. Appling scored 10 points and dished out five assists but struggled to contain Burke and finished with four fouls.

Despite loss, team looks to next U-M game

Ann Arbor– Draymond Green has the exact date ready in the front of his mind. Not long after he and the No. 9 MSU men’s basketball team lost in heartbreaking fashion, 60-59, to No. 20 Michigan on Tuesday in Ann Arbor, Green had focused his eyes on the road ahead — and the impending rematch with U-M in less than a month.

NCAA rejects scholarship cuts to student-athletes

The NCAA Division 1 Board of Directors has rejected a proposal that would have lowered the number of total scholarships available to student-athletes. The proposal, which the board rejected at this past weekend’s NCAA Convention , would have reduced the number of scholarships available to football programs at the Football Bowl Subdivision, or FBS, level from 85 to 80 and lowered the number of women’s basketball scholarships from 15 to 13.

MSU Federal Credit Union, or MSUFCU, recently donated $30,000 to the college, the majority of which will be used to fund the creation of the game, said April Clobes, executive vice president and chief operating officer of MSUFCU.
