Students join in E.L. for Seder meal away from home

To mark the beginning of the Jewish holiday Passover, students and community members gathered at MSU Hillel, 360 Charles St., to eat a special Seder meal. In Jewish culture, the Seder meal traditionally kicks off Passover celebrations, which began Friday and will continue until April 14, said Audrey Bloomberg, director of Jewish student life at MSU Hillel.

Renovations to Bailey, Rather halls on track for June completion

Construction on two of Brody Complex Neighborhood’s residence halls is close to wrapping up, but two others will be out of commission for similar renovations starting in May. The current renovations to Bailey and Rather halls both are on budget and on schedule to be completed by the middle of June, said Jeff Bonk, assistant director of design and construction management for Residential and Hospitality Services.

Diversity dinner urges understanding

On Saturday night, as many students were heading home for the Easter holiday, another celebration of community was taking place at East Lansing High School, 509 Burcham Drive. About 100 East Lansing residents, MSU faculty and students gathered for food and festivities at the sixth annual Muslim Students’ Association, or MSA, Diversity Dinner.

Library hosts fundraiser to increase materials fund

As the East Lansing Public Library prepares to deal with the effects of a potential budget crunch, library officials are gearing up to raise funds and awareness for the facility. The library, 950 Abbot Road, is planning a series of events to celebrate National Library Week, culminating in its Books, Bites and Bids fundraiser Friday evening.

Column: Baseball team bound to fail if hits keep lacking

The MSU baseball team has assembled a pitching core to compete with any team in the nation. But great pitching is useless without offensive support. Jake Boss Jr. acknowledges that this much is true. But as the Spartans found out this weekend, there’s a fine line between the theory of scoring runs and the literal production of them.

Gymnastics’ season ends at Regionals

When the MSU gymnasts headed into the NCAA Auburn Regional with the No. 6 seed this weekend, they were hoping for a similar result to last year’s tournament appearance, when the Spartans placed in third — falling just short of advancing to the next round. However, it was not to be, as the Spartans placed sixth overall with a team score of 194.050 as Georgia and Oregon State placed first and second, respectively, to advance to the NCAA Championships.

Softball swept in 3 games at Penn State

The MSU softball team took three losses this weekend in its three-game series against Penn State in University Park, Penn. The Spartans (11-26 overall, 0-9 Big Ten) just broke a seven-game losing streak with a win against Central Michigan last week before their losses this weekend.

Redbird takes audience on bluesy flight

To experience success with their current band, Dillon Gorden and Drew Irwin first had to let another one fall apart. Lansing resident Gorden and East Lansing resident Irwin both were members of alternative act A Letter to You, which broke up about two years ago, before forming their new group, Redbird.

Taken — two years after murders, families of Brown, Goodenow still seek closure

For the friends and family of Darren and Owen, it’s been two years of waiting. Waiting while the investigation by the Lansing Police Department was turned over to the Michigan State Police. Waiting for the trial and conviction of Lansing resident Benjamin French for the murders. Waiting for David Marion Jr. to plead guilty. Despite justice being served, Darren Brown Jr. and Owen Goodenow are forever taken.
