MSU co-op promotes unity through gardening

Hedrick House, like all other Michigan State co-ops, prides itself on being owned and operated for the mutual benefit of its members. The flourishing garden that can be seen in the yard of the 140 Collingwood Drive residence is operated on the same principle.“We pooled money together with the garden too,” psychology senior and current resident of Hedrick House Scott Kallek said. “Whoever wanted to be involved split the cost.”

Apartment fire displaces residents, burns hole through floor

Eastpoint Townlets on 1732 Cambria Drive caught fire Saturday.Ryan Romey, area director of DTN Management, said only one unit was affected by the fire. There were heavy smoke damages, but the bedroom — where the fire started — suffered the most with a hole in the floor.

NHL drafts incoming MSU hockey freshman

Defenseman Josh Jacobs was selected 41st in the draft pick by the New Jersey Devils during Saturday’s second round of the draft in Philadelphia. Jacobs formerly played for the Indiana Ice hockey team in the United States Hockey League for two seasons and is the first Spartan to be drafted by New Jersey since 1984.

Back then, mock drafts had Payne pegged from the late first round to the early second. He had promised his late grandmother Mary Lewis he would finish his degree in interdisciplinary studies. MSU basketball head coach Tom Izzo held the belief that in returning, Payne would expand his game and improve his draft stock.

The American Cancer Society hosted it’s annual Lansing Relay for Life on June 27 and 28 at Cooley Law Stadium.Relay for Life is one of the American Cancer Society's largest fundraisers and this was the first year the Lansing event was held at Cooley Stadium.
