Women's soccer defeats San Diego State in season opener

The women’s soccer team kicked off its 2014 season last night, securing a 3-1 victory over San Diego State.The Spartans scored the first goal on a penalty kick by junior defender Mary Kathryn Fiebernitz at the 11th minute, and followed it up with another goal from redshirt junior forward Rachel VanPoppelen in the 29th minute.

ESPN analyst David Pollack picks MSU as preseason Big Ten football favorite

When Ohio State quarterback Braxton Miller went down for the season with a shoulder injury, many experts put MSU in the driver’s seat for the Big Ten championship. According to ESPN analyst David Pollack, MSU was in that seat all along. The commentator and former Georgia standout said he had MSU as the favorite in his preseason predictions when he spoke to reporters via conference call Thursday.

With opening kickoff only eight days away, MSU football wrapped up fall preseason camp on Thursday with one final scrimmage. No. 8 MSU is now setting its sights on opening night against Jacksonville State, with Head Coach Mark Dantonio giving the players the rest of the week off to relax. However, before the players break away for a small break, Dantonio announced the 2014 team captains along with weighing in on the current depth chart and season-ending injury to a star Big Ten quarterback.

Carpenter said the new contract roughly triples the amount of entertainment channels available to students, estimating that about 150 channels are now available to students in residence halls, compared to about 40 before the renegotiation.

MSU reaches goal of doubling study abroad enrollment in China

In 2009, President Barack Obama announced the “100,000 Strong China” initiative with the goal to increase the number of students studying abroad in China.As a response to the initiative, 94 MSU students studied in China during the 2012-13 school year, a number double from the 2010-11 school year.Secretary of State Hilary Clinton launched the initiative in Beijing in 2010 and called upon institutions of higher education to increase their number of students studying in China by 2014.

Head Football Coach Mark Dantonio and the football team signed autographs for fans and other activities occurred at Spartan Stadium during the 12th annual “Meet The Spartans” event on Monday evening."Meet the Spartans" once took place at Meridian Mall in Okemos, but returned to Spartan Stadium for the second year.
