Students face challenges living off campus

If students still shopping for housing are looking for independence and living space during their time at MSU, they might consider renting a house in one of many East Lansing neighborhoods close to campus. Emma Hill, a zoology junior, said she began living in a house with a few of her friends this year.

Hopeful future for housing development

A housing development in East Lansing might see an increase in buyers after a sluggish summer, city officials said. The Avondale Square project, located on the 600 block of Virginia Avenue and aimed at permanent residents, is expected to have more buyers in the coming months, said Lori Mullins, East Lansing Community and Economic Development administrator.

MSU housing, food services sees major overhaul

Students returning in the fall no longer will go the housing office in their complex if they have a problem with their roommate. Instead, students will visit a new central housing office at C-101 in Wilson Hall, which is part of an overhaul of the university’s Division of Housing & Food Services.

Committee considers adding Cowley Avenue to historic district

Residents of Cowley Avenue might soon be a part of the Chesterfield Hills Historic District if an exploratory committee finds their property meets certain criteria. The historic district, which includes homes of a certain age and type, is up for re-evaluation this year as called for by the plan that established the district.

Board votes to increase housing by 5.25 percent

Students living in university housing during the 2009-10 year will see an increase of 5.25 percent for room and board rates, the MSU Board of Trustees decided Friday. The increase will raise the rate for a double room with an unlimited meal plan from $7,026 to $7,395, an increase of $369, according to the university.

Room and board rate to increase 5.25 percent

Students living in university housing will see a 5.25 percent increase in room and board rates for 2009-10, as approved by the MSU Board of Trustees on Friday. MSU has one of the lowest rates in the Big Ten, with the University of Minnesota, University of Iowa and University of Wisconsin having lower rates. Students will now have to pay $7,395 to live in a residence hall, an increase of $369 from the 2008-09 year.
