Lighter Nix could be force inside for MSU

What would have happened if Derrick Nix hadn’t taken this summer seriously? Nix, a freshman center on the MSU men’s basketball team, knows exactly what would have happened if he hadn’t dropped 30 pounds — and counting — since his arrival in East Lansing. Or if he hadn’t done extra cardio on his own after working out with teammates. Or if he had consumed more than just cereal, Nutrigrain bars and liquids after 6 p.m. in an effort to get into shape.

Report: Big Ten to participate in bowl

Although the Little Caesars Pizza Bowl wasn’t among the announced Big Ten bowl games in a conference release last week, the bowl still expects to be part of the Big Ten postseason, bowl officials told the Detroit Free Press.

Spartans earn revenge in win

The No. 8 MSU field hockey team delivered what it set out to accomplish in Friday’s 3-0 win at Iowa. The Spartans effectively executed on the road against solid Big Ten competition and outshot the Hawkeyes 15-1, while creating some scoring chances and keeping their Big Ten record unblemished.

Hawkeyes come to E.L. as lone unbeaten Big Ten team; Buckeyes upset at Purdue

Purdue quarterback Joey Elliott sparkled while Ohio State’s Terrelle Pryor stumbled, as the Boilermakers upset No. 7 Ohio State 26-18 at Ross-Ade Stadium in West Lafayette, Ind. Elliot threw for 281 yards and two touchdowns for Purdue (2-5 overall, 1-2 Big Ten) while Pryor had four of Ohio State’s five turnovers, as the Buckeyes (5-2, 3-1) lost to an unranked team for the first time since 2007.

Ricondo's game-winner gives MSU 1st Big Ten win

For the first time in the history of the MSU men’s soccer program, the Spartans beat No. 23 Indiana in Bloomington, Ind. And the win came in dramatic fashion, with junior midfielder Jeff Ricondo scoring the lone goal of the match in the 102nd minute of double overtime, giving the Spartans the 1-0 victory.
