Hockey defenders providing valuable contributions in conference play

With goals not coming in bunches for MSU hockey, there only is one way the Spartans continue to remain in tight games each night out — defense.

Badgers top Appling-less MSU in Madison

MADISON, Wis. — The Spartans blew their only chance to beat Wisconsin in the regular season, as Traevon Jackson hit a 10-foot jump shot with 2.1 seconds left in the game to give the Badgers a 60-58 win. “(I’m) disappointed we didn’t find a way to win it,” head coach Tom Izzo said.

Wisconsin leading MSU at halftime

It’s another classic game between No. 9 MSU and Wisconsin, as Sam Dekker and Josh Gasser’s 16 combined points have helped the Badgers take a 30-22 halftime lead. Wisconsin’s Josh Gasser was the man down the stretch as he nailed a 3-pointer and hit two free throws to cap off an 11-0 run at the end of half.

Ohio State beats MSU hockey in shootout again

For the third time this season MSU and Ohio State needed more than 60 minutes of regulation and five minutes of overtime to determine the winner, and for the second straight night, MSU fell in the shootout. MSU and Ohio State played to a 2-2 tie Saturday afternoon at Munn Ice Arena, with Ohio State winning the shootout to earn the additional point.Freshman forward Nick Schilkey had the lone shootout goal. It was the fifth time the additional point was determined by a shootout for MSU.
