MSU police report they have taken two men into custody for the recent theft of laptop computers and other electronic devices from multiple residence halls on campus. While the investigation is ongoing, the department said it will seek charges through the Ingham County Prosecutor’s Office. The thefts, which occurred in Holden Hall and other parts of campus, involved two suspects entering unlocked dorm rooms and making off with laptop computers. MSU police are urging students to lock their rooms and keep belongings in secure locations.
After being arrested on Monday in connection with a false shooting threat on the social media site Yik Yak, finance freshman Matthew Michael Mullen, 19, was arraigned in East Lansing’s 54-B District Court by Judge Richard Ball.

Ending the first half of their season on a high note, four members of the MSU Debate Team secured Top 16 finishes during their largest competition of the semester. After nearly an hour and a half of heated debate and discussion during ASMSU’s Thursday policy committee meeting, the representatives voted unanimously (7 yes votes, one abstention) to pass a bill that would regulate how vacant positions are filled on the general assembly. The bill is designed to “amend the ASMSU Code of Operations to create an official process of appointing members of ASMSU to represent colleges with vacant seats in the general assembly for the duration of the assembly’s session,” according to the text of the bill. “There’s no real process by which appointments to the GA be recommended,” said representative for the College of Social Science and bill introducer Evan Schrage. There are many vacant seats for representatives on general assembly, but the way they are filled now is very unofficial.
We want to engage people in movement. It’s hard to exercise. We encourage people to get involved with movement that is fun for them. to enjoy movement that we are creating social movement. It doesn’t have to be competitive. it’s good for you and good for your body. Some things we encourage movement is by riding your bike or walking. Feeling of something...The app was released at the time of the zombie walk. we will be seeing the administrative development, how we can use it for challenges. The leadership will gather together tonight and during our meeting we will discuss events for the spring semester. We’ll be talking about the activities well be promoting in the next semester. I’m excited about the first days of development of walk and how we can use the app for challenges and students to use for their challenges. We wanted to have an online presense; the idea comes from expercise medicine. to engage communities for exercise for their health. This program is not just for students, but for faculty and staff members as well. I enjoy seeing people participate in these activities. People from across campus come together and the live interest in movement is great to see. I think we’ll see it grow and see more interest. Overall, I enjoy seeing people have fun with movement. The program started about 3 years ago but was inactive for a year. It restarted in Spring of 2014. MSU Moves U is part of the healthy campus inititative The school wants us to have the healthiest campus in america, MSU Moves U is a part of that program, MSU Moves started a couple of years ago and it was a collabrative effort between students and health services, the university of positions office of health 4U and the recoration sports but we reseracted it and we had a new initiative. what’s unique about MSU Moves is its all about just movement; its not about exercise. we dont even use the work exercise as much as we do about movement. sometimes people have a really negative reaction to exercise and or feeling that they cant exercise so we just want people to move. movement is important and I don’t think enough people know that. You don’t have to go out there and sweat. you dont have to run 2-3 miles to actually get your body working. Were really about movement and you know some people cant walk or cant run and some people use adaptive devices. so it’s really about MSU getting you to move and we’ve had two events this year so far. we had to rock walk and roll which we had about 160 people there and it was a combination of faculty and staff and students and that one was kind of our initial movement of getting people out there to let them know aobut it. second one was the zombie one. we were trying to get unique ways to get students, faculty and staff to engage. we had people dress up as zombies and had giveaways. it’s reallty about celbrating movement; you dont need to exercise. sometimes its just walking around. a lot of students dont necessarily move a lot during the day and when youre sitting for class anywhere from 4-8 hrs and then you go home and spend a lot of time on technology, our new studies say that most students spend 2-4 hrs a day between texting and facebook alone and...theyre usually not moving and when they are moving theyre putting themselves at risk because theyre not watching where theyre going. we now have a new app taht was develiped where you can go and make challenges and were trying to make this more productive and fun for people. one way were promoting this is putting the app out by both apple and android and its a challenge where you can get points for doing things. so were trying to market it through each neighborhoods. were trying to market it to rec sports services and were trying to market it through student health services. were trying to enbrace what movement is all about. exercise is medicine. movement will help you Theresa I was a part of the zombie walk and a big part of when we were planning it was trying to get everyone to interact. I started this year and learned about it by workng here at Olin. You meet new people and make friends by getting involved. I do some social media things and sending different tweets or posts on fb about MSU Moves. it was really exciting to see people get others interested and hopefully we can get the word around and make this a big campus program.
