Simon speaks up on federal assault investigation

President Lou Anna K. Simon tried to play down information surrounding the federal investigation into Title IX sexual assault and violence complaints against the university Monday, calling the investigation "a review" and saying she looks forward to working with the Department of Education's Office of Civil Rights, or OCR.During the Academic Governance meeting on Tuesday, Simon said the investigation merely was a "review" of university practices by the federal government.

False alarm of man with gun at Bessey scares student body

Thousands of students received a university alert Monday afternoon warning them of a man with a gun who allegedly was seen walking to Bessey Hall. Soon after, another alert was sent informing students that the original text was a false alarm and no real threat was evident. MSU police said on its Facebook page that a Reserve Officer Training Corps cadet in plainclothes had a replica rifle in hand when walking through Bessey Hall’s parking lot.

Impact 89 FM celebrates 25 years of student radio

Thursday night usually signifies the crowding of students in a local bar to unwind after a long week of classes, but last Thursday, one Lansing bar was crowded for a different reason — to celebrate WDBM 88.9-FM’s birthday. 25 years ago, Impact existed as an AM radio station with a signal that could only be picked up by certain residence halls.
