Math, science degrees earn more

Students who graduate with degrees that generally require more math and science tend to earn more after graduation according to a new survey on starting salaries for college graduates.

A North Face backpack, which contained a 2008 Dell laptop, was stolen from the Union women’s lounge on Sunday around 1:30 p.m., MSU police Sgt. Florene McGlothian-Taylor said.

Primary voter turnout released

Secretary of State Terri Lynn Land announced Wednesday 1.36 million, or 19 percent of Michigan’s 7.2 million registered voters, participated in Tuesday’s primary election, according to a press release.

Cold case finally closed

The last remaining unsolved murder at MSU has been solved. Marie Ann Jackson, whose body was found in an isolated wooded area of MSU property near College Road on Nov. 21, 1970, had been lying in the woods for up to four days before her body was found. She had been strangled.

Safety fair educates, entertains E.L. families

Everything from carnival rides to car seat inspections were found Tuesday evening at East Lansing’s Patriarche Park, 1100 Alton Road. Local residents joined together for a family-friendly safety carnival in celebration of the 25th annual National Night Out.

Pollsters see weak start for state primary

So far, voter turnout at some East Lansing polls has been slow, as expected. “I guess we’d have to say the turnout has been very light, very light — we’ve had only one person, and it’s what time — 3:30?” said Bill Rittenberg, chair of precinct 13, with a polling location at MSU’s Owen Graduate Hall.

While many MSU students are gone for the summer, the campus has still been buzzing — with construction. More than 15 projects have been under construction this summer, including renovations to Mayo Hall, the Holden Hall public areas, Spartan Stadium, Wharton Center and Farm Lane.
