Web exclusive: MSU Community Music School hosts instrument petting zoo

The MSU Community Music School showcased the importance of music in the community and in education Sunday during its public open house. The event, held from 3-5 p.m. at the school, 841-B Timberlane St., had a variety of activities offered to all age groups, including performances by children’s choirs and the New Horizons Band, as well as an instrument petting zoo.

RHA hosts hip-hop concert Saturday feat Mich. artists

Almost two hours before Saturday’s Fall Welcome Concert began, MSU special education sophomore Grace Rzepkowski showed up with a group of friends, clad in concert T-shirts signed by the artists they were about to see, to claim the first few spots in line.

Band's latest CD 'psychadelic'

Fans turn to vinyls for old school flair

It’s time to dust off the ol’ vinyl. As new record stores pop up around East Lansing, Hodge Heckaman, a professional writing junior working at The Record Lounge/Scavenger Hunt, 503 E. Grand River Ave., said the younger audience is gaining an appreciation for vinyl through its dream-like vision of the past.

Knott plays summer concert series

The Summer Concert Series continues with a performance by Ryan Knott beginning at 7 p.m. and ending at 9 p.m. Friday. The concert will take place at Fountain Square at the corner of M.A.C. Avenue and Albert avenues. Saturday night’s performers will be Against School Violence, at the Ann Street Plaza, also beginning at 7 p.m.

Russ Zarras, a physics senior, was raised on funk and couldn’t resist the siren song of George Clinton and Parliament-Funkadelic. Lansing resident Kari Hanson saw an opportunity to see her boyfriend, Brice, and children hear music and dance under the stars to Huey Lewis and the News.

Local businesses hope for boost from Common Ground attendees

Downtown Lansing businesses are hoping the Common Ground music festival will be a high note in a summer dominated by news of job losses. The festival begins today and runs through Sunday in Adado Riverfront Park and at the intersection of Shiawassee Street and North Washington Avenue in Lansing. Five stages will feature both nationally known and local performers.

MSU College of Music hosts jazz camp

MSU is hosting a jazz camp that began on Sunday and will conclude Friday, according to a statement from MSU. The 65 participating students are from Lansing and Detroit and are middle- and high-school aged.
