After nearly a year in the making, Michigan’s first non-partisan educational research institute will open its doors at MSU. University officials will hold a grand opening ceremony for the Education Policy Center on Thursday.

Binsfeld is not person for position

Michigan’s former Lt. Gov. Connie Binsfeld is now a candidate for the MSU Board of Trustees. Before you cast your ballot please consider not just name recognition, but Binsfeld’s past record. The Lansing State Journal and Detroit Free Press described, in detail, how Binsfeld used her position of power to pressure the Department of Natural Resources and the Environmental Protection Agency to grant permits. Binsfeld’s longtime friend Michael Hendrickson of Munising was twice denied a permit by the DNR for a landfill that was near a wetland connected to Lake Superior.

Ever since he was a little boy, Eric Arnold has dreamt of making video games. That dream became a reality when he joined the registered student organization Spartasoft. “We just started out with a couple guys that wanted to learn how to make games,” Arnold, a computer science junior said.

Star plans to visit Madison college

Richard Dreyfuss will take “baby steps” to Case Hall on Thursday as part of the “Mr. Holland’s Opus Education” tour. Dreyfuss, the star of the movie “Mr. Holland’s Opus,” will visit schools in the Lansing area Thursday in support of political activism, said Norman Graham, associate dean of James Madison College. The Oscar-winning actor will visit Lansing’s Waverly High School, 5207 W.

Student stabbed twice at off-campus party

A 22-year-old East Lansing resident was stabbed while attempting to break up a fight early Sunday morning.Eric Miller, a criminal justice and psychology senior, was stabbed twice in the back by an unidentified male at a party inside a private residence on the 100 block of Gunson Street around 1:15 a.m., said East Lansing police Capt.

The scent of burning sage filled the cold night air Monday night in front of the rock on Farm Lane.The smoke, used for purification, wafted over the nearly 200 people who gathered with the North American Indian Student Organization to observe Indigenous People’s Day.

Council to consider transportation merger

The East Lansing City Council will meet tonight to discuss Capital Area Rail Council merging with the Capital Area Transportation Authority. The Rail Council is a group of representatives from the Greater Lansing area who oversee the Amtrak station in East Lansing.

Voter registration is pretty simple

The article The State News ran regarding the voter registration deadline was misleading (“Voter registration deadline close,” SN 10/6). Students do not, in fact, have to vote in the city currently listed on their driver’s license.

An ankle sprain suffered in practice Thursday forced freshman outside hitter Amy Sibbernsen out of the starting lineup this weekend for the first time all season. Entering the weekend, Sibbernsen had started every match for the women’s volleyball team.
