Badger bomb defeats gridders in final minute

It was a defensive battle and somebody had to break the tie. Unfortunately for MSU, it was Wisconsin.The Badgers evened the score at 10 with 11 seconds left in the second half, and it stayed that way until backup quarterback Jim Sorgi connected on a 45-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Lee Evans with 0:45 remaining, giving Wisconsin a 17-10 win.The play occurred just after the Badgers elected to attempt a fourth-and-one conversion at MSU’s 46-yard line.

Police open office in Union

The East Lansing and MSU police departments are entering another partnership to improve relations between police and students.East Lansing police Officer Larry Sparkes and MSU police Officer Andrea Beasinger are setting up an office in the Union to address student concerns.“We need to be able to communicate back and forth between our departments and the students,” Sparkes said.

When Arizona Sen. John McCain visited MSU in February, he was George W. Bush’s fiercest rival.But when the Republican returned to campus Thursday for a live taping of MSNBC’s “Hardball with Chris Matthews,” he came off looking like one of the Texas governor’s biggest fans.During the hourlong program, which was held at the 4,000-seat Auditorium, McCain continuously expressed his loyalty to Bush, the Republican candidate for president.Yet he didn’t tell students in attendance who to cast their ballots for in November.

Octoberfest begins tonight
