The engineers at MSU’s Cyclotron building don’t get a three week vacation during the holidays; they’re always working - and thinking. Steve Bricker is no exception. Bricker graduated from MSU in 1981 and has been an engineer in the Cyclotron lab ever since.

Icers serve Bulldogs back-to-back shutouts

You don’t have to go to an Ivy League school to figure out you can’t win a hockey game without scoring a goal.And that was one feat Yale couldn’t accomplish in its series against MSU at Munn Ice Arena this weekend.MSU senior goaltender Joe Blackburn blanked the Bulldogs 5-0 on Friday night and sophomore goaltender Ryan Miller earned a 4-0 shutout Saturday as MSU extended its unbeaten streak to 18 (15-0-3).Yale (6-8-0) outshot the top-ranked Spartans (16-1-4 overall, 9-1-3 CCHA) both games, but Blackburn made 31 saves and Miller turned away 36 shots to earn the wins.

When Jacobson’s closed its local doors and moved to Meridian Mall in October, East Lansing’s anchor store was pulled from downtown.Now, three months later, another national chain plans to fill the vacancy.Barnes & Noble Booksellers, which is expected to open by November 2001, secured a 10-year lease with The Christman Company of Lansing to occupy 333 E.

Meningitis kills employee, state tightens regulations

State lab workers are working under stricter regulations when studying meningococcal bacteria - the organism that causes meningitis.The move comes after Department of Community Health employee Linda Reese died Christmas Day after she was infected by a meningitis bacteria sample that she had been working on.

MINNEAPOLIS - The MSU women’s basketball team has proven it can handle pressure by winning another Big Ten buzzer-beater. In its past two conference games, MSU (2-1 Big Ten, 8-6 overall) has stayed alive and won at the buzzer, this time squeezing by Minnesota (0-3 Big Ten, 7-7 overall), 66-65.

Clinton to visit, reflect on presidency

By ERIC MORATH The State News President Clinton will spend one of his final days as the nation’s chief executive at MSU on Tuesday, where he will honor a championship basketball team and reflect on his presidency. Clinton is scheduled to address a Breslin Student Events Center crowd for about 20 minutes, and admission is free.
