Racism wasnt a factor with rock

After reading the article about the MEXA-fraternity incident (“Fraternity paints over heritage message on rock,” SN 9/25), I was completely disgusted with what has been said by those on each side of the quarrel.

Not a chance

Students shouldn’t be peppered with survey questions while eating at a MSU cafeteria. The method in which a survey was given to MSU freshmen by the Department of Residence Life on the first day of class while they ate in the cafeterias could have been better. Eighteen percent of freshmen returned the survey, which was distributed throughout each residence hall cafeteria and covered a wide range of issues, including drinking, campus groups and money.

Fraternity, SN help replace locals bike

It’s a bird. It’s a plane. No, it’s just Brady Brown whizzing by on his brand-new bike. After the 13-year-old East Lansing boy wrote a letter to the editor in The State News describing how his $250 stunt bike was stolen while he was on campus, Theta Delta Chi and donors throughout the community united to buy Brady a new bike. “After I read his letter, I felt so bad,” Jason Brisboe, philanthropy chair of Theta Delta Chi, said.

Bandwagon fans need to toughen up after loss

The honeymoon is over. After starting the season 3-0, MSU head football coach Bobby Williams suffered the first loss of his career, preventing him from becoming the first coach in school history to win the first four games of the season. Going 3-0 in his first season is still quite an accomplishment. The sports radio shows, magazines, Internet sites and newspapers - including this one - have finally begun to cease the constant comparisons and differences between him and former MSU coach and current Louisiana State leader Nick Saban. Some MSU fans haven’t. After a 37-17 clawing by the Northwestern Wildcats on Saturday, it was evident that there are some green and white faithful out there that are spoiled - spoiled from experiencing one of the greatest eras in Spartan athletics history last season.

U should not have to put up with hate crimes

I’ve seen “Revenge of the Nerds” and “PCU” - I know there’s a lot of “basic crap that freshmen deal with in college,” as Jennifer Carboni, director of Bailey and Bryan halls, said in The State News (“Residents react to lewd slurs scrawled through halls ,”SN 9/25). But never in my wildest dreams did I imagine that the “freshman crap” I should be anticipating would include the threat of rape. I refer to the malicious vandalism of Brody Complex on Sept.

Money isn’t everything - to recent college graduates, at least.A survey conducted by the National Association of Colleges and Employers on its Web site, www.jobweb.com, shows a large salary isn’t all that determines what jobs people accept.About 82 percent of the 1,146 people surveyed earlier this year said where the job is located geographically is important to them, while less than 8 percent said location wasn’t a factor at all.Mimi Collins, NACE director of information, said the results were not a surprise.
