Report on infiltration released
In its report released Friday, an independent panel said it would have been better if the undercover surveillance of student groups never had occurred and that other alternatives should always be sought out.The report came after four months of research by the panel, which reviewed MSU polices investigation of a group of student activists. The report also said the Department of Police and Public Safety handled the extraordinary investigation without as much care and attention as it may have required.Recommendations for undercover surveillance of student organizations and relationships between MSU students and MSU police also are made in the report. The report follows the placement of an undercover officer into United Students Against Sweatshops, now called Students for Economic Justice, beginning Feb.
