The future of the West Circle dorms was discussed at Fridays meeting of the MSU Board of Trustees as they mapped out how campus may look in 20 years. After months of discussion, the board is expected to vote on whether to approve the 2020 Vision master plan at its meeting next month. Demolition and reconstruction or extensive renovations of those residence halls and buildings with similar styles were two broad-based proposals presented by Chuck Gagliano, assistant vice president of Housing and Food Services. Gagliano said maintenance and other expenditures cost MSU about $600 more per student to live in West Circle than in other complexes on campus.
Anthrax scares have popped up across the country, but MSU employees working in campus mail rooms can rest easier knowing the university has taken measures to promote their safety and comfort. Biohazard safety kits containing gloves, special containers and disposal instructions are available for mail rooms in every college and department through University Stores. The kits will be delivered based on request. We are attempting to supply each building with a mail room with one of these kits, said John Lewis, director of University Services.
It became a little easier to be Green on Thursday. The Green Party - which branded Ralph Nader its poster boy during the 2000 presidential election - gained equivalent status with the Republican and Democratic parities, regulators ruled. The Federal Election Commission voted 6-0 to recognize the Green Party of the United States as a national committee. I think it is wonderful, said Tim McCarty, a political theory and constitutional democracy sophomore, who worked for Nader during the 2000 election. The partys new status means it can accept $20,000 a year per donor, and use the money toward state and local party committees.

Regardless of the outcome in MSUs football game against Indiana on Saturday, one player with the last name Rasmussen wont be happy.Thats because sophomore defensive tackle Kyle Rasmussens older brother Kemp is the Hoosiers starting defensive end. This game will be the only time the brothers will get a chance to stand on opposite sidelines. This is the last time were going to get to play each other so its kind of for bragging rights - forever, Kyle said.Thats why theyve been looking forward to it for so long, Kemp told The Associated Press.Ive had this game circled on my calendar since last year, Kemp said.

I am writing in response to the complaint made by Mike OBryan about the Meridian Mall case (Meridian Mall case gets too much play, SN 11/7). First, to answer his question was it truly worthy of the front page of the State News? Yes!
Last year, the MSU field hockey team lost to Iowa in the first round of the Big Ten Tournament, ending the teams season. Rock legend Rod Stewart hits Breslin Center on Saturday. From rock to pop, Stewart survived the 1960s, 70s, 80s and 90s and is still going strong. He has staying power with so many hits, said Keith Pellegrini, promotions director for WMMQ (94.9-FM). A show like this is going to be two hours of hits. Even though Stewart just released a new album, Human, Pellegrini thinks the concert will consist mostly of classics. I would say Rods shows now are just all hits, he said.
When baby boomers began entering college during the 1960s, more space was needed on campuses to accommodate hordes of new students. And during that time, about 8 million square feet and nearly a third of the buildings on MSUs campus were constructed. University engineer Robert Nestle said despite some buildings undergoing extensive renovations or even being destroyed, the majority of buildings on campus can remain useful with updates. Buildings tend to be updated and renovated as needs change, he said.
At this time I would like to say the feelings expressed by Raphael Goodstein (Think U are on par with the Maize and Blue?

Provide all the excuses you want, having MSU police wander through tailgates armed with video cameras is not a good idea.Despite reassurances from MSU police, students caught on tape during football Saturdays - or at any other event - have to wonder if police officers are out to get them.Officials say the tapes are used to analyze the ways different groups act while tailgating, and to document arrests and large groups to protect individuals and officers from later court action. And while it can protect officers during a questionable arrest - having a visual record always helps should a disagreement surface - the ability to record at will has the potential to be abused. Most students are unaware of the reasons why MSU police videotaped at past tailgates.
