Adoption dialogue

Justus is an 8-year-old boy from Florida, with bushy hair and a crooked smile. His bio says he enjoys writing and animals, and in his free time, he likes to go to the movies. Fedeline, 8, and her sister Kettelove, 5, patiently glare upward in a picture.

Spartans could be 13 deep next season, Joseph may transfer

The locker room is empty. The equipment is packed away. The players are on hiatus for two weeks — "13 1/2 more days than last year," head coach Tom Izzo said. The season is over for the MSU men's basketball team — a grueling campaign that saw the Spartans go from preseason doormat to a few minutes away from a Sweet 16 berth. "The biggest problem now is where do we go?" Izzo said Wednesday at his year-end press conference.

Midwest Region highlighted by goalies

Athletes probably get used to being overlooked when they're 5-foot-6. But not sophomore goaltender Jeff Lerg. Lerg, who was named the team's Most Valuable Player on Monday, may be forgotten among Hobey Baker candidates such as Notre Dame goaltender David Brown and Boston goaltender John Curry.

Group not beneficial for MSU students, vote no

Although it came a year later, I applauded the decision by ASMSU to disband Great Issues. I like to think my four years at MSU has taught me how to successfully conduct research, but no matter how hard I search The State News or the ASMSU Web site, I still have no clue what Great Issues' purpose was or why it was ever created. The only speaker I ever heard of who was sponsored by Great Issues was Joe Carr.

Forget conference awards, here's the superlatives you really need to know

Now that the MSU basketball team's season has come to a close, it's time to hand out some awards. Most likely to say something that can't be printed in The State News without heavy editing — sophomore guard Travis Walton Walton is pretty tame when he's speaking at the podium during post-game press conferences, but if you're in earshot when the Spartans huddle up before taking the court, prepare for some fantastic sound bites.

Greek councils enforce grade-report policy

MSU's Interfraternity and Panhellenic Councils are enforcing a policy that reviews the academic skills of MSU's greek community to showcase the stronger chapters and provide motivation for the struggling houses. Every semester, the two councils send every greek chapter grade cards to fill out, and the information is collected and put into a comprehensive grade report.

Lansing — Local government leaders are aiming to improve the economy and landscape of Michigan Avenue throughout the next decade with a partnership announced Thursday. The Corridor Improvement Authority unites East Lansing, Lansing Township and Lansing in an effort to strengthen the avenue's stretch from the Capitol to MSU. The authority's goals include beautifying the streetscape, strengthening the roadway and utility systems and drawing more innovative business to the region, East Lansing Mayor Sam Singh said. "The days of looking at our communities as separate are over," Singh said.
