Primary voter turnout released

Secretary of State Terri Lynn Land announced Wednesday 1.36 million, or 19 percent of Michigan’s 7.2 million registered voters, participated in Tuesday’s primary election, according to a press release.

COMMENTARY

Not all parents deserve honor from children

The Fifth Commandment (or sometimes Fourth, depending on who’s counting) says to honor your father and mother. If I could qualify this commandment, I would make it applicable only to parents who are at least above average because, despite what the Bible says, reproducing your genes should not automatically entitle someone to any sort of honor.

COMMENTARY

Candidates need more feasible energy policies

A recent series of polls conducted by New York’s Quinnipiac University found that voters in six of seven key battleground states feel that energy policy is more important than the war in Iraq when they’re deciding who should be the next president. Michigan is one of those six states.

Cold case finally closed

The last remaining unsolved murder at MSU has been solved. Marie Ann Jackson, whose body was found in an isolated wooded area of MSU property near College Road on Nov. 21, 1970, had been lying in the woods for up to four days before her body was found. She had been strangled.

Police responded to a domestic assault call Saturday at West McDonel Hall between 3:30 and 3:50 a.m., MSU police Sgt. Florene McGlothian-Taylor said.
