Football team selects captains

The MSU football team announced Thursday that senior quarterback Brian Hoyer, senior running back Javon Ringer, senior defensive tackle Justin Kershaw and senior strong safety Otis Wiley were selected by their teammates as captains for the 2008 season. After achieving personal successes in 2007, Hoyer and Ringer are the key cogs in what’s expected to be a dangerous offensive attack. Kershaw is a three-year starter who set career-best marks in tackles, tackles for loss and sacks last year.

Woman found not guilty of indecent exposure during Cedar Fest

A 19-year-old woman was found not guilty Tuesday of indecent exposure during the Cedar Fest riots. Elizabeth Hart, who pleaded not guilty to the misdemeanor offense, wasn’t convicted by a six-person jury that heard her case in East Lansing’s 54-B District Court. Four members of the East Lansing Police Department, who had all been involved in Hart’s arrest, testified as witnesses for the city of East Lansing. Dantonio: 'I'm very encouraged'

Contact was the order of business Friday for the MSU football team’s first day of practice in full pads this summer. After four days of fall camp in shorts or half-pads, the team dressed for collisions Friday and ran about 35 to 40 live plays, head coach Mark Dantonio said.

Making their mark

In MSU’s 153-year history, 115 Spartan athletes, coaches and officials have worn the green and white proudly before going on to wear the colors of their respective countries. MSU representatives have brought home 18 gold medals, 12 silver medals and eight bronze medals during the ultimate worldwide competitions, according to MSU Alumni Magazine.

A North Face backpack, which contained a 2008 Dell laptop, was stolen from the Union women’s lounge on Sunday around 1:30 p.m., MSU police Sgt. Florene McGlothian-Taylor said.

Students who graduate with degrees that generally require more math and science tend to earn more after graduation according to a new survey on starting salaries for college graduates.
