Health care bill to extend insurance age limits

MSU students and graduates will have the option to remain on parent insurance plans until age 26 under the national health care plan waiting for President Barack Obama’s final approval. The health care bill cleared the House, 219-212, late Sunday night about three months after passing in the Senate. Obama is expected to sign the bill as soon as Tuesday.

MSU physicists help prove antimatter exists

Seeing isn’t believing — at least not for a scientist. After almost two years of peer review, checking and rechecking facts and looking at all possible alternatives, an internationally collaborative team of 584 physicists announced Friday the proven existence of antimatter.

Pikachu, Bulbasaur, Charizard, oh my!

Twenty-year-old David Broker has about 100,000 Pokémon trading cards at his home in Colon, Mich. Broker was one of 70 entrants in the “masters” division at Saturday’s 2010 Michigan Pokémon Trading Card Game State Championships held at the Okemos Conference Center, 2187 University Park Drive. Masters include participants who were born before 1994 or are older than 16.

MSU club to host event fundraiser

The MSU Outdoors Club is hosting a flavor-tripping party from 7-10 p.m. Wednesday at Reno’s East Side Sports Bar, 1310 Abbot Road. The funds will be used to help the Outdoors Club start scholarships as well as buy new equipment.

Study: Local crops could cut school district costs

A recent MSU study looked at the relationship between local farmers and about seven school districts that buy produce from them as part of farm-to-school programs. The MSU team’s research, which appeared in the March issue of the Journal of Nutrition Education and Behavior, showed students preferred the local produce.

Kentucky derby daze

Louisville, Ky. – After a physical first half, No. 4-seed Kentucky’s aggressive, relentless attack was too much for the No. 5-seed Spartans to handle as fatigue took over and the Wildcats cruised to a 70-52 win Monday night in the second round of the NCAA Tournament at Freedom Hall.

Lucas officially out for NCAA Tournament

Kalin Lucas ruptured his left Achilles tendon in MSU’s 85-83 second-round win over Maryland on Sunday in the NCAA Tournament, and the junior guard will miss the remainder of the NCAA Tournament, the MSU men’s basketball program announced in a statement. Head coach Tom Izzo said in a statement Monday that “there is no doubt he will make a full and complete recovery.” Recovery time is expected to be four to six months.
