Parking lot closings to start this month

MSU’s parking situation is going to get a little more crowded as spring construction projects near Berkey Hall and Brody Complex commence. Lot 3 near Berkey Hall and Lot 65 near Brody Complex are expected to begin closing in the coming weeks for various projects, said Robert Nestle, university engineer for the MSU Physical Plant Division.

Man taken off Lansing flight

A man who was escorted off a Detroit-bound flight from Lansing was released Monday with no charges, an FBI official said. The man, whose identity has not been released, was detained after he allegedly tried to escape the plane while it was on the runway at Lansing’s Capital Region International Airport.

Bowman will not pursue governorship

Another Democratic candidate exited Michigan’s 2010 gubernatorial race Monday. Former Michigan Treasurer Robert Bowman filed an exploratory statement last week but said Monday he cannot commit to the race for candidacy.

Many businesses dislike tax proposal

Kris Lachance is trying to understand the logic behind Gov. Jennifer Granholm’s proposal to expand the state sales tax to cover services — which includes tattoo parlors, hair salons, tanning booths and movie theaters as some of the possible 150 targeted businesses.

Izzo hopes distractions done for MSU

During his team’s three-game losing streak, Tom Izzo was looking for some resiliency and a rallying cry from his players. The MSU men’s basketball head coach thinks he found it during Saturday’s 65-54 win against Penn State, and a key reason was junior guard Mike Kebler’s defensive performance on Penn State guard Talor Battle.

Energy crisis should trump climate change

Proving that climate change is false does nothing but allow one political party to point fingers at the other to sway votes. This polarization of public policy doesn’t help our country move forward from use of fossil fuels, but rather holds us back. Instead, we should focus on changing our policies and practices.
