Grant makes bioenergy crop growth possible

A new state grant could help MSU plant the seeds for more renewable energy in Michigan. The university recently received the $476,000 grant from the Michigan Department of Energy, Labor & Economic Growth, or DELEG.

MSU, colleges nationwide see increase in applications received

In an article published earlier this month in the Chronicle of Higher Education, administrators at numerous prestigious institutions across the country said they are noticing increased application totals year-to-year from interested students. MSU currently is up about 5 percent in applications compared to last year.

Spartans pull away from Dayton, 74-62

Despite being just a freshman, Annalise Pickrel took control in a late game situation. The 6-foot-3 guard for the No. 25 MSU women’s basketball team (2-0) showed flashes of inside-outside brilliance in the final five minutes of the team’s 74-62 victory against Dayton on Monday night at Breslin Center.

Fundraiser aims to raise awareness about camp

The dulcet tones of Hanson’s “MMMbop” could be heard blaring from a boombox Monday afternoon at the Wells Hall bridge as student volunteers attempted to raise money and awareness for children whose parents have or have had cancer. The musically-inclined Stop the Bop fundraiser was hosted by members of the MSU chapter of Camp Kesem.

Office of Financial Aid adds more security

Students and guests wishing to speak with MSU’s Office of Financial Aid staff this spring concerning student records soon will have to further confirm their identity by answering one of three security questions. In compliance with the 1974 Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act, or FERPA, MSU officials will implement additional security measures to ensure identity before a person obtains confidential records and financial aid information, said Val Meyers, associate director for the MSU Office of Financial Aid.

International Education Week events occurring all weeklong

In honor of International Education Week, a nationwide event celebrating international relations between the United States and other countries, the MSU community will join together to celebrate diversity at the university. MSU will host several events throughout the week, including the Global Festival on Sunday from noon to 5 p.m.
