2 MSU athletes face charges in Colorado

The MSU Athletics Department has yet to release a statement about the recent arrest of two MSU football players during spring break. MSU Associate Athletics Director John Lewandowski said the Athletic Department will not issue a statement until MSU football head coach Mark Dantonio has a chance to address the arrest of junior tight end Brian Linthicum and freshman linebacker Max Bullough. The two were arrested in Aspen, Colo., early Thursday morning. Linthicum was arrested for misdemeanor third-degree assault, and Bullough was arrested for minor in possession of alcohol, Aspen police Sgt.

Students affected by earthquake in Japan

The Japan that Yoichi Hirose is coming home to isn’t the one he left a year ago. Nine days from now, Hirose, an intern at the Office of International Students and Scholars from the University of Fukui in Fukui, Japan, will return to his hometown of Ishikawa, Japan.

E.L. Planning Commission grants extension to City Center II project

A multimillon dollar development slated for downtown East Lansing is moving forward after months of stagnancy. The City Center II project received a 12-month extension to its site plan after the East Lansing Planning Commission passed the request at its March 9 meeting at City Hall, 410 Abbot Road. City Center II is a $97 million mixed-use project slated for development on the corner of Abbot Road and Grand River and Evergreen avenues.

A preliminary outline of the 2011 fiscal year East Lansing budget, which proposed numerous cuts to accommodate for decreases in funding from the state, was presented to the East Lansing City Council in its March 8 meeting.

MSU celebrates 95th annual agricultural week

The hubbub of activity normally caused by students who leave East Lansing for spring break temporarily was replaced by people interested in farming, agriculture and similar areas in celebration of MSU’s 95th Agriculture and Natural Resources, or ANR, Week.

Music school to hold band camp

The MSU Community Music School will host Rock Camp, a series of weekly classes during which middle and high school students have the opportunity to learn how to start, manage and perform in a band. The camp will run from 6-9 p.m. Monday through April 25 at 841 Timberlane St.
