Young linebackers gain experience to replace veteran core

Entering spring camp with the task of replacing two of the most consistent linebackers in the recent MSU history, the team’s young linebackers have done an excellent job in helping to account for the loss of last season’s stalwart group of seniors, head coach Mark Dantonio said Tuesday.

For accounting sophomore Brian Perry, going in blind has had its ups and downs. Perry, a transfer student from Central Michigan University, said in his freshman year at CMU, he met some of his best friends after filling out a roommate matching survey and getting placed with three other freshmen.

Representatives for ASMSU will be electing their leadership Thursday, but this year there are new positions to fill that differ from the traditional organization of previous years. ASMSU is MSU’s undergraduate student government. The new positions reflect the changes of the newly merged General Assembly.

Study shows students have higher debt, more trouble repaying loans

When scheduling classes, Anna Craft always has a calculator within reach. With the rising costs of tuition, the professional writing junior factors in the cost of each individual credit hour to ensure she doesn’t borrow more money than she absolutely has to. “While taking out loans and going through the process, I found out that each credit hour costs roughly $400,” Craft said.

College of Human Medicine HQ earns ‘green’ certification

The College of Human Medicine’s Secchia Center has been honored for its efforts to “go green” in Grand Rapids. Last week, the Secchia Center — the college’s headquarters in Grand Rapids — was awarded Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, or LEED, gold certification by the U.S.

Using a $4.1 million grant from the National Science Foundation, a research team in MSU’s Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology wants to continue its research on plant evolution and metabolism using cultivated and wild tomato species.
