Misty Holley’s husband gave her a choice: She could keep her unborn child with Down syndrome, or she could keep him. Eleven years ago Holley’s daughter, Dakota Brookens-Hillebrand, was born with blond hair, blue eyes and Down syndrome.

A 58-year-old male university employee reported his employee parking pass was stolen from his vehicle between 8 a.m. Sept. 13 and 11 a.m. Sept. 26, MSU police Sgt. Florene McGlothian-Taylor said.

Hockey opens Anastos era with blowout win

After a lack luster 2010-11 season, the MSU hockey team enters the new season looking to right the ship with an experienced roster and a new staff. In the first game of the Tom Anastos era, the Spartans were gritty while putting on an offensive clinic to beat a solid Western Ontario team in an exhibition, 6-1.

$1M grant creates jobs to go green

MSU’s Bioeconomy Institute is going green. The center is among a group of businesses — including the Prima Civitas Foundation in East Lansing — that received a $1 million grant from the Commerce Department’s Economic Development Administration earlier this month to fund an additional research center to develop green energy technology.

Students should find own faith

Reports such as “Religion & Rebellion” (SN 9/29) dismay me but are not surprising. College years are for students to find themselves, and they certainly could find engaging new aspects of their own spirituality while learning other important things, enjoying new social scenes and exploring enticing possibilities for their futures.

Michigan Flyer makes Ann Arbor trip

The Michigan Flyer will make a special 11 p.m. trip from East Lansing to Ann Arbor after the Spartans’ football game against U-M Oct. 15. The later departure time will allow U-M students to spend time in East Lansing after the game.
