Spartans collect food donations to fight hunger

The MSU Division of Residence Education and Hospitality Services and Department of Intercollegiate Athletics are teaming up with the MSU Student Food Bank and the Greater Lansing Food Bank to attempt to “tackle hunger” for the sixth year in a row.

Spartans look to maintain momentum in critical stretch

Last weekend, the MSU volleyball team shocked the crowd at Jenison Field House when it toppled No. 4 Nebraska in a five-set thriller. This weekend, the Spartans (19-7 overall, 7-7 Big Ten) look to repeat that episode, as they have the chance to knock off No. 10 Minnesota (20-5, 11-3) to start their Big Ten doubleheader.

More debt, more problems

I am really, really terrible at saving money. I always have considered myself a giving person. I usually will take my friends out to dinner or get them lavish presents for their birthdays, even if the favor is not returned. I usually will contribute more to the tip pile than my friends when going out for dinner. And I always have had a good amount of money saved for recreational college use.

The Road Ahead

With a hard-fought election behind him, President Barack Obama now must face a second term of continued challenges, but MSU experts say his attention to higher education likely will fall short of his campaign promises and first-term efforts. Despite the importance of college affordability on the campaign trail, MSU experts said turning those promises into reality in President Obama’s second term is not high on his priority list — especially among more pressing concerns such as the economy, job growth and the budget deficit.

Hockey players take stand in Carmack case

Three MSU varsity hockey players testified in East Lansing’s 54-B District Court on Wednesday as witnesses in the assault case of MSU advertising junior Brandon Carmack, who allegedly tried to assault his girlfriend on the night of Aug. 27 and the early hours of Aug. 28 in the 600 block of Grand River Avenue.
