Sigma Pi and Up 'til Dawn MSU host first pancake eating contest for charity

By Casey Hollandcholland@statenews.comTHE STATE NEWSnnFor the first time, Sigma Pi fraternity and the Up 'Til Dawn MSU student organization teamed up to put together an event that allowed people to stuff their faces with as many IHOP pancakes as they could, all for a good cause.The two organizations held their first pancake eating contest at IHOP on Grand River Avenue Monday evening.

Don't stereotype co-op residents

When you imagine the stereotypical co-op kid, a few traits may pop into your mind: vegan, Phish lover, dubious standards of hygiene, space case, organic food enthusiast, environmental advocate, pie-the-sky idealist, etc.I would like to take this opportunity to dispel the typecast and offer up a more accurate and realistic image of what the typical co-op-er looks like.

Tom Izzo remembers the first Sweet16 he ever went to as a head coach, in 1998 after his team beat Princeton.Capping off a two-win weekend in Spokane, Wash., Izzo and the MSU men’s basketball team beat another Ivy League school to reach Izzo’s 12th Sweet 16 in 17 years.

Michigan same-sex couples in legal limbo as appeal heads to higher court

After about two weeks of deliberation, U.S. District Judge Bernard Friedman ruled on Friday that Michigan’s ban on gay marriage was unconstitutional. Attorney General Bill Schuette filled a temporary stay to prevent the ruling from going into effect until an appeal is filed. The stay was granted by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit Saturday afternoon and will be in effect until Wednesday.
