Students gather to volunteer in Lansing

The gymnasium quickly dissolved into chaos as the two lines of players rushed together. In a diverse game of dodgeball, MSU students, local volunteers and Lansing schoolchildren faced off at the Boys and Girls Club of Lansing, 4315 Pleasant Grove Road. The match was part of Destination Lansing, a volunteer initiative launched this weekend.

Study: Regional economy improved during last year

Despite a lagging national economy, a new study found East Lansing improved financially last year. Milken Institute’s ranking of top U.S. cities, which judges metropolitan areas based on economic performance, placed the Lansing-East Lansing metro area as 120th in the nation in 2012, up 30 spots from 2011.

Lawmaker tries to save marijuana dispensaries

After a state Supreme Court ruling declared medical marijuana dispensaries illegal, one Michigan lawmaker hopes to keep the shops in business. State Rep. Mike Callton, R-Nashville, is working on a bill that might combat the Michigan Supreme Court’s decision to outlaw dispensaries.

No leads regarding stolen permits, police say

Several university parking permits have been “pilfered” while being sent through the mail, MSU Police Assistant Director Tony Kleibecker said. Kleibecker said at least four multi-car parking permits, complete with a suction cup to move them from car to car, were reported missing from the sealed envelopes sent by the department to members of the MSU community.

New Korean barbecue opens in East Lansing

Bulgogi is the name of a Korean dish consisting of beef and vegetables. It’s also the name of a new restaurant that opened last week in East Lansing.
